Oversize and overweight bags
Fees and seasonal limitations vary by destination. Contact Reservations for help and to make sure your oversize bags will fit on the plane.
More than one fee may apply per bag that exceeds standard dimensions for both weight and size. For travel on / before April 16, 2024, the checked bag fee + oversize fee + overweight fee applies. For travel on / after April 17, the higher fee between oversize and overweight applies, in addition to the checked bag fee.
Reservations and ticket changes
Oversize bags
For travel on / before April 16, 2024, we only accept checked bags up to 126 in / 320 cm (length + width +height). For travel on or after April 17, 2024, checked bags over 115 in / 292 cm in total dimensions (length + width + height) are not accepted.
For travel on / after April 17, 2024, a $30 fee applies for checked bags over 62 in / 158 cm up to 65 in / 165 cm. There is no change to oversize fees for travel on / before April 16, 2024.

For travel on / before April 16, 2024, items with maximum total outside dimensions up to 126 in / 320 cm (length + width + height) are accepted. For travel on / after April 17, 2024, items with maximum total outside dimensions up to 115 in / 292 cm (length + width + height) are accepted.

Overweight bags
For travel on / after April 17, 2024, a $30 fee applies for checked bags over 50 lbs / 23 kgs up to 53 lbs / 24 kgs. There is no change to overweight fees for travel on / before April 16, 2024.
We don't accept checked bags over 100 lbs / 45 kgs on American Airlines operated flights.
Business and Domestic First confirmed customers can check 2 bags up to 70 lbs / 32 kgs at no extra cost.
Flagship® First and Flagship® Business Plus confirmed customers and AAdvantage Executive Platinum®, AAdvantage Platinum Pro® and oneworld® Emerald members can check 3 bags up to 70 lbs / 32 kgs at no extra cost.
